Meaning
So this is what led up to my good decision making skills.
So Berk has no weapons when Alvin has come a calling for Hiccup. He thinks Hiccup is a Dragon Conqueror. He doesn't know this person is HICCUP. But it's interesting that he does know Hiccup is Stoick's kid. While Hiccup does mean runt and Alvin was a Berkian, so he would know this, the fact he knows Hiccup is STOICK'S is interesting. Maybe because of whatever grudge they got going on...? How did they hear about Dragon Conqueror anyway? Is this a rumor circling around? Why is it conqueror and not trainer? Why does no one know his name, it's kind of a hilarious detail to leave out. =|a (We still don't know who started the rumor. Money says Johann might have spread tales.)
Waaaaaant to protect my village and gods, so much guilt. They're only in trouble because Alvin WANTS HIM. Can't let them be hurt because of him, nope nope nope, not allowed.
Also more Astrid dere. ASTRID IS AWESOME. Totally gets him.And punched Mildew who Rider has some complicated feelings about, but whatever, the punch was still awesome.

Meaning
There is not a lot of REVELATION for Rider here since he had already figured out this whole Night Fury adventure was going to be a trap and Mildew was behind it. Though it does make Rider feel conflicted because he also remembered Mildew APOLOGIZING and him FORGIVING him to a certain extend and oh here's the anger again.
Though there is definite some BETRAYAL here and perhaps it was this moment that drove Hiccup to really be all right with Mildew just dying. Oh, he certainly hated him before, but that was a personal anger. But not only did Mildew target the dragons, he was BETRAYING Berk. He had to play some sort of nice with Mildew because he was still part of the village, he still had Justifiable Concerns. Hiccup didn't think he'd actually BETRAY BERK for it.
Which didn't really get through with the other memories, so it's making Rider all the more conflicted between wanting to forgive him or being okay he's dead (since he thinks he's dead.)
Also it's one of the few times Hiccup is showing he's afraid, which is interesting. Really the first time he's LOOKED afraid in front of Alvin instead of sassing him. Which is because Toothless is also in danger and they're both trapped and there is no back up. He hadn't really had all those factors combined and it shows.

Meaning
Dragon calls are cool.
More sad feels about no Night Furies.
MOST ASTRID DERE. Gosh, so easy to talk to her. About little things bugging her and she still has to prompt a bit, but she makes him internalize a whole lot less. Very easy for her to be reassuring.
Mostly though, it's just all this trust and belief in Hiccup's capability. First with the kids listening to him. Then it being implied he has some RESPONSIBILITY for people's actions. And finally being given Bork's notes. Hiccup knows how big of a deal it is. He's floored he's being given this amount of trust. He's meant to care for the past and future and it's just.
So many.
Feelings.
All over.
And in a way it's both good and terrible for Rider. It's a huge confidence boost. Information is something he's been doing and he was trusted with it back home and he FELT he could be trusted with it. But Rider has been having this PROBLEM of not feeling very useful and not being trusted to really handle things with Heliodor and it just...gets to him. It'll probably improve him with his friends, but it'll make him sadder about Heliodor since he largely feels like he's not doing enough for them. Like he was a screw up with his tribe, but LOOK, now they trust him with super important thing. But still...useless for his 'Aather Tribe' which is Heliodor, so it's a bit fffff.

Meaning
Everything started pretty awesome and THEN GOT A WHOLE LOT LESS AWESOME.
One part is a bunch of feelings Rider doesn't really understand. There is a HUGE AMOUNT OF GUILT that Hiccup feels about Toothless' injury. Rider hasn't made the connection HE injured Toothless. So he doesn't understand this amount of guilt at all and gonna chalk it up to not being able to help Toothless.
Really it's a very conflicting memory. Because on one hand, yes, he DOES want to help Toothless. He wants to do right by him and help him and all of that. But there's also the part that is afraid that Toothless only stays with him because he helps him fly. ): And he really doesn't want Toothless to not come back, that'd crush him.
But he still does it because he loves Toothless and hopes for the best, but then Toothless just FLIES OFF and it's very distressing. Pretty much a if you love them, let the person go thing, but it's still terrible to let them go.
Though Rider knows Toothless will come back because he remembers that and Toothless was just off getting his helmet. So while he'll feel sad DURING, that gesture will just mean more because Toothless was away doing something FOR HIM. >8 Toothless is the best.

JUST TAKING A JOKE AND MAKING IT REALITY because there is plenty of circumstantial evidence and no evidence to the contrary. Because someone needs to be able to cook in Stoick's household and it's not likely to be Stoick.
Hiccup can cook! He's not amazing and he's actually somewhat limited because Berk does not a terrible amount of VARIETY in it's food. But he's pretty good at meat and fish and meat soup stocks. So it'll up his cooking ability and how well he learns it.
BUT HE'S ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AT BREAD. Because if that's the first thing to pop into his head for an alternative, he's probably got some skill at it. So yes, damn good with the bread. And better with the baking. Because Heliodor always needs more baking.

Meaning
The memory isn't as bad as it COULD be because Rider already knows that both he and Toothless survive. He's just not sure how because she doesn't remember getting grabbed so all he got is I COULDN'T FREE TOOTHLESS AND I WAS DROWNING, WHAT HAPPENED.
But clearly there is a FIGHT going on with the Dragon Queen. Aaaaand he's starting to think whatever happened to her wasn't a good thing and he's still not sure how to feel about that. '-'
There is oddly some positive that Rider can recognize that Hiccup wasn't even pondering. He was leading an attack. And overall, he was doing it WELL. At least none of the kids had died by the time he went under and apparently won't and they listened to him. The orders came easily and it's just...kind of reassuring in a way? He can work under pressure!
But there is a lot of negative because whatever happened...he wasn't the one to help to Toothless. That's where a lot of the negative comes from. Toothless is his most important person in his life and to be so completely unable to help him when he NEEDED him is very disheartening. He can lead people who barely tolerated him into battle, but he couldn't save the person he wanted to save the most of all. Someone else had too. Which isn't so good because Rider is never sure if he CAN be the person to help those most important to him.
Also hate almost drowning. Drowning sucks.

Meaning
It will take some pondering on Rider's part before he realizes that HOLY SHIT, TOOTHLESS CLIMBED OUT OF THE COVE ON HIS OWN. Which...he already knows Toothless couldn't do BEFORE. And he knew to come save Hiccup. Which means he KNEW so either Night Fury hearing is SCARILY GOOD or there's something....platonic soul mate life ping going on or whatever. STILL. The fact is Toothless overcame what he couldn't before just to SAVE HICCUP. Which is worse after the almost drowning memory because Toothless could do it, but Hiccup couldn't, so that's sad.
What's worse is Toothless was put in danger trying to SAVE HIM so there's even more guilt with that. He is happy to know he wasn't so stupid to deliberately let Toothless be close to the village, but that only absolves some of his guilt. Not all of it.
A lot of what's going on isn't a surprise. Rider knew this was going to go wrong, so it's not a surprise it did. But it is a lot of pain. It makes it obvious how very much he didn't fit in, how much of an embarrassment he was for his father, and just...how everything about him just didn't fit in to his village. Even if what he did was ultimately needed, it just makes the whole thing up to that point sadder. He tried to do something to show things could be better, but his way was in such conflict with the old ways that it was wrecked when Stoick reacted in the normal viking way.
But Hiccup knew it could go wrong. He accepted that. And he accepted that no matter how much he wanted to be, he wasn't going to be able to be one of them. He had to do the thing that needed to be done, even if it ended badly for him. Which...it did. And then somehow it won't? But Rider isn't precisely sure how that will happen yet. And he's not sure he likes what he suspects WILL happen.
It makes his confidence shaky if it's really all right to be himself.
Negative Trivial: Three days with Dagur. (Form: Sticky candy wrapper. Lick it. 1/3)
This is implied headcanon! The Berserkers are a rather large tribe, far larger than Berk, but their chief is Oswald the Agreeable so Berk can maintain a treaty with them. Yearly they visit to sign the treaty. Unfortunately while Oswald is agreeable, his son is absolutely deranged. And as son of the chief, it's up to Hiccup to make sure Dagur doesn't get into too much trouble. And it's a long visit this time around.
Hiccup is ten in this memory (his first memory of being a kid) and he will remember being told what he had to do, feeling a whole lot of UNSURE about the whole thing, but doing it after some sass until Stoick uses a commanding voice. So when Dagur comes, Hiccup greets him, tries to play nice, but yeah, Dagur is a few years older and utterly insane. This also isn't the first time Hiccup's had to watch him, so at least he's prepared for it.
This particular visit includes losing Dagur at various points over the three days only to discover Fishlegs has been starved in a cage for three days. And forcing his to eat rotten cod head. Hiccup got out Fishlegs, got the most awkward of thank yous before Fishlegs pulled away, and had to deal with a moody Dagur. There was also a drowning attempt. (This is the batch of memories of Hiccup almost drowning.) After this little incident, it was decided that the Berserkers would go now and Hiccup is so very relieved.

Meaning
Well, one part that's distressing is getting to see how the village treated him on a normal day to day basis. Hiccup pretty much had to deal with Dagur all on his own and probably got a lot of judging looks if he didn't reign him in. It's always kind of a kick in the gut when Rider remembers it so directly because it's usually just implied because his memories are either afterwards or when he's a liar or he's not in the village. And getting this as a KID is very distressing.
Which Rider isn't surprised by because he remembered how Kid Him was for that one game, but it's all just kind of sad. ):
And then there's Fishlegs who awkwardly thanks him and GOSH there was a moment there where he felt maybe they could be friends, but no, Fishlegs leaves because peer pressure is terrible.

SO IT STARTED ALL NICE AND HAPPY. Oh some history of the tribe. Oh some admiration of old leaders. Some hints of a grim history, but eh, they're vikings, that's to be expected.
And he felt like he was bonding with his father. It was a traditional thing and he seemed happy and it was all nice.
THEN EVERYTHING SHATTERS AT YET ANOTHER MOMENT WHERE STOICK IS LIKE 'it would be nice if you were different.' He doesn't fit in, he's not right, he's not good enough as is, and it just...it hurts. So this is what led up to my good decision making skills.
So Berk has no weapons when Alvin has come a calling for Hiccup. He thinks Hiccup is a Dragon Conqueror. He doesn't know this person is HICCUP. But it's interesting that he does know Hiccup is Stoick's kid. While Hiccup does mean runt and Alvin was a Berkian, so he would know this, the fact he knows Hiccup is STOICK'S is interesting. Maybe because of whatever grudge they got going on...? How did they hear about Dragon Conqueror anyway? Is this a rumor circling around? Why is it conqueror and not trainer? Why does no one know his name, it's kind of a hilarious detail to leave out. =|a (We still don't know who started the rumor. Money says Johann might have spread tales.)

Meaning
There is not a lot of REVELATION for Rider here since he had already figured out this whole Night Fury adventure was going to be a trap and Mildew was behind it. Though it does make Rider feel conflicted because he also remembered Mildew APOLOGIZING and him FORGIVING him to a certain extend and oh here's the anger again.
Though there is definite some BETRAYAL here and perhaps it was this moment that drove Hiccup to really be all right with Mildew just dying. Oh, he certainly hated him before, but that was a personal anger. But not only did Mildew target the dragons, he was BETRAYING Berk. He had to play some sort of nice with Mildew because he was still part of the village, he still had Justifiable Concerns. Hiccup didn't think he'd actually BETRAY BERK for it.
Which didn't really get through with the other memories, so it's making Rider all the more conflicted between wanting to forgive him or being okay he's dead (since he thinks he's dead.)
Also it's one of the few times Hiccup is showing he's afraid, which is interesting. Really the first time he's LOOKED afraid in front of Alvin instead of sassing him. Which is because Toothless is also in danger and they're both trapped and there is no back up. He hadn't really had all those factors combined and it shows.

MOST ASTRID DERE. Gosh, so easy to talk to her. About little things bugging her and she still has to prompt a bit, but she makes him internalize a whole lot less. Very easy for her to be reassuring.
Mostly though, it's just all this trust and belief in Hiccup's capability. First with the kids listening to him. Then it being implied he has some RESPONSIBILITY for people's actions. And finally being given Bork's notes. Hiccup knows how big of a deal it is. He's floored he's being given this amount of trust. He's meant to care for the past and future and it's just.

And in a way it's both good and terrible for Rider. It's a huge confidence boost. Information is something he's been doing and he was trusted with it back home and he FELT he could be trusted with it. It'll probably improve him with his friends, but it'll make him sadder about Heliodor since he largely feels like he's not doing enough for them. Like he was a screw up with his tribe, but LOOK, now they trust him with super important thing. But still...useless for his 'Aather Tribe' which is Heliodor, so it's a bit fffff.

Meaning
Everything started pretty awesome and THEN GOT A WHOLE LOT LESS AWESOME.
One part is a bunch of feelings Rider doesn't really understand. There is a HUGE AMOUNT OF GUILT that Hiccup feels about Toothless' injury. Rider hasn't made the connection HE injured Toothless. So he doesn't understand this amount of guilt at all and gonna chalk it up to not being able to help Toothless.
Really it's a very conflicting memory. Because on one hand, yes, he DOES want to help Toothless. He wants to do right by him and help him and all of that. But there's also the part that is afraid that Toothless only stays with him because he helps him fly. ): And he really doesn't want Toothless to not come back, that'd crush him.
But he still does it because he loves Toothless and hopes for the best, but then Toothless just FLIES OFF and it's very distressing. Pretty much a if you love them, let the person go thing, but it's still terrible to let them go.
Though Rider knows Toothless will come back because he remembers that and Toothless was just off getting his helmet. So while he'll feel sad DURING, that gesture will just mean more because Toothless was away doing something FOR HIM. >8 Toothless is the best.

Hiccup can cook! He's not amazing and he's actually somewhat limited because Berk does not a terrible amount of VARIETY in it's food. But he's pretty good at meat and fish and meat soup stocks. So it'll up his cooking ability and how well he learns it.
BUT HE'S ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AT BREAD. Because if that's the first thing to pop into his head for an alternative, he's probably got some skill at it. So yes, damn good with the bread. And better with the baking. Because Heliodor always needs more baking.

Meaning
The memory isn't as bad as it COULD be because Rider already knows that both he and Toothless survive. He's just not sure how because she doesn't remember getting grabbed so all he got is I COULDN'T FREE TOOTHLESS AND I WAS DROWNING, WHAT HAPPENED.
But clearly there is a FIGHT going on with the Dragon Queen. Aaaaand he's starting to think whatever happened to her wasn't a good thing and he's still not sure how to feel about that. '-'
There is oddly some positive that Rider can recognize that Hiccup wasn't even pondering. He was leading an attack. And overall, he was doing it WELL. At least none of the kids had died by the time he went under and apparently won't and they listened to him. The orders came easily and it's just...kind of reassuring in a way? He can work under pressure!
But there is a lot of negative because whatever happened...he wasn't the one to help to Toothless. That's where a lot of the negative comes from. Toothless is his most important person in his life and to be so completely unable to help him when he NEEDED him is very disheartening. He can lead people who barely tolerated him into battle, but he couldn't save the person he wanted to save the most of all. Someone else had too. Which isn't so good because Rider is never sure if he CAN be the person to help those most important to him.

Meaning
It will take some pondering on Rider's part before he realizes that HOLY SHIT, TOOTHLESS CLIMBED OUT OF THE COVE ON HIS OWN. Which...he already knows Toothless couldn't do BEFORE. And he knew to come save Hiccup. Which means he KNEW so either Night Fury hearing is SCARILY GOOD or there's something....platonic soul mate life ping going on or whatever. STILL. The fact is Toothless overcame what he couldn't before just to SAVE HICCUP. Which is worse after the almost drowning memory because Toothless could do it, but Hiccup couldn't, so that's sad.
What's worse is Toothless was put in danger trying to SAVE HIM so there's even more guilt with that. He is happy to know he wasn't so stupid to deliberately let Toothless be close to the village, but that only absolves some of his guilt. Not all of it.
A lot of what's going on isn't a surprise. Rider knew this was going to go wrong, so it's not a surprise it did. But it is a lot of pain. It makes it obvious how very much he didn't fit in, how much of an embarrassment he was for his father, and just...how everything about him just didn't fit in to his village. Even if what he did was ultimately needed, it just makes the whole thing up to that point sadder. He tried to do something to show things could be better, but his way was in such conflict with the old ways that it was wrecked when Stoick reacted in the normal viking way.
But Hiccup knew it could go wrong. He accepted that. And he accepted that no matter how much he wanted to be, he wasn't going to be able to be one of them. He had to do the thing that needed to be done, even if it ended badly for him. Which...it did. And then somehow it won't? But Rider isn't precisely sure how that will happen yet. And he's not sure he likes what he suspects WILL happen.
It makes his confidence shaky if it's really all right to be himself.
Negative Trivial: Three days with Dagur. (Form: Sticky candy wrapper. Lick it. 1/3)
This is implied headcanon! The Berserkers are a rather large tribe, far larger than Berk, but their chief is Oswald the Agreeable so Berk can maintain a treaty with them. Yearly they visit to sign the treaty. Unfortunately while Oswald is agreeable, his son is absolutely deranged. And as son of the chief, it's up to Hiccup to make sure Dagur doesn't get into too much trouble. And it's a long visit this time around.
Hiccup is ten in this memory (his first memory of being a kid) and he will remember being told what he had to do, feeling a whole lot of UNSURE about the whole thing, but doing it after some sass until Stoick uses a commanding voice. So when Dagur comes, Hiccup greets him, tries to play nice, but yeah, Dagur is a few years older and utterly insane. This also isn't the first time Hiccup's had to watch him, so at least he's prepared for it.
This particular visit includes losing Dagur at various points over the three days only to discover Fishlegs has been starved in a cage for three days. And forcing his to eat rotten cod head. Hiccup got out Fishlegs, got the most awkward of thank yous before Fishlegs pulled away, and had to deal with a moody Dagur. There was also a drowning attempt. (This is the batch of memories of Hiccup almost drowning.) After this little incident, it was decided that the Berserkers would go now and Hiccup is so very relieved.
Break Down

Meaning
Well, one part that's distressing is getting to see how the village treated him on a normal day to day basis. Hiccup pretty much had to deal with Dagur all on his own and probably got a lot of judging looks if he didn't reign him in. It's always kind of a kick in the gut when Rider remembers it so directly because it's usually just implied because his memories are either afterwards or when he's a liar or he's not in the village. And getting this as a KID is very distressing.
Which Rider isn't surprised by because he remembered how Kid Him was for that one game, but it's all just kind of sad. ):
And then there's Fishlegs who awkwardly thanks him and GOSH there was a moment there where he felt maybe they could be friends, but no, Fishlegs leaves because peer pressure is terrible.
BUT MOSTLY THIS IS ABOUT DAGUR. And how much Dagur is a terror and how much abuse Hiccup can really take because Dagur is not the gentle sort and he was in charge of him. But considering how deranged Dagur is, and how little he respects life, it does show Hiccup always had a talent for handling dangerous things that could easily kill him.
Dragons are just easier to deal with.
Also apparently drowning is a thing he almost does. A lot. (Seriously, three times in canon now, I HAVE A COUNTER FOR IT.)
There is also some concern because this kid is the heir to the chiefdom of the Berserkers, who are a VERY SCARY TRIBE to be against because they have high numbers and they have berserker warriors. And Hiccup is gonna be chief with this guy around. While trying to change the world. So Rider is a bit concerned about that.

Meaning
SO IT STARTED ALL NICE AND HAPPY. Oh some history of the tribe. Oh some admiration of old leaders. Some hints of a grim history, but eh, they're vikings, that's to be expected.
And he felt like he was bonding with his father. It was a traditional thing and he seemed happy and it was all nice.
THEN EVERYTHING SHATTERS AT YET ANOTHER MOMENT WHERE STOICK IS LIKE 'it would be nice if you were different.' He doesn't fit in, he's not right, he's not good enough as is, and it just...it hurts. Every little bit hurts. He doesn't back slide completely, he's still willing to open up to Astrid and later he'll get more proactive to get what he wants. But it still makes him doubt if he's really good enough as is and he HATES IT.
He loves his dad a lot and really just wants to be assured that his dad won't be wishing for someone else as a son.
