OKAY, SO STUFF.
Basically the reason I prioritized this memory is because Rider was as good as he was going to get without it. He has come a long way since Memory 12. He fought to get back hope and being happy and just believing in himself. Thinking he COULD do good things, that maybe he CAN help. There's been some big things, like plot events and certain games and Apollo's letter, and just a bunch of little things that have helped Rider put his pieces back together. He was at the point that he was CAPABLE of moving forward.
All he needed was closure. Good or bad, Rider could have taken it and moved forward. If it had been the worst case scenario, would he have been a sad duck for a while? Yes, but he wouldn't have gone complete and total BSOD and he would have recovered to a status quo on his own. Because he had already accepted the worse and decided to move forward despite that. Just...he didn't know WHAT happened, so it was just waiting for a bomb to go off. It would hold him back until he got the closure.
AND NOW HE HAS THAT. And got the totally unexpected BEST END for the entire scenario. Just like Rider didn't expect how bad things got, he did not expect how good they would get. He kind of hoped maybe he saved SOME people after he found out about Astrid. There was someone on his side, someone to kick him into gear, and someone people trusted. Maybe they could get some people to stay, maybe something else, but pretty much dreaded Toothless at least would die because he was in the worst spot. BUT NOPE, SOMEHOW SAVED ALL HIS IMPORTANT PEOPLE, UNEXILED, MADE PEACE BETWEEN VIKINGS AND DRAGONS, AND MAYBE GIRLFRIEND.
So all his worst fears about home were unfounded and SUDDENLY ALL HOPES AND DREAMS REALIZED TO BOOT?! Since he had wanted to make peace since day one of his time in Aather, got some praise from dad, and even that girlfriend thing. It's such a shocking revelation that it will take a while for Rider to process it all in it's entirety, but pretty much the whole time he's doing it, he will be grinning like a loon. He's not sure WHAT he did, and he's sure Astrid is a big part of why it worked, but the fact he's unexiled is proof enough that he had a big hand in fixing things. Gotta redeem yourself from exile. Plus in the memory, after Toothless arrives, Rider will remember Hiccup as PURELY HAPPY FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. No nagging guilt or doubt or dark cloud from lies or loneliness or missing dragon. Just legitimately happy. It's this fact that really hits it home that things really got better.
Not that this memory wiped away all the negative feels. Hiccup's natural state of being is that of self doubt plus there is still a lot of repressed bitterness. While his father seems far more affectionate than he was, there's still THOSE issues too. But they're all pretty longstanding issues that he struggles with. (All over in Riders of Berk.)
Rider was ready to move forward and try before. Now he's not held back with the nagging sensation of WHAT HAPPEN and he's got a pretty big confidence boost too. He CAN do things right, in a big way, even if he's not sure how. He'll stop his down bouts, because those happened, and overall just be prone to be happier.
It's kind of memory that just got rid of a lot of shackles that was holding Rider back and now it's just a question of where he's going to go from there. He already long since decided to help Aather, whatever happened. Mau's already told him how becoming a Legacy gives him a chance to check on Berk. He does feel more responsibilities towards his village, but he also feels a bigger responsibility to help save his WORLD from the Darkness, especially if he was a beacon at first. So a wait and see how that'll go.

What have I stepped into because when are my memories like this. And seriously, why weren't Fishlegs and I bros? '-'

But in all seriousness, it's an extremely JARRING memory. Gift of the Night Fury was jarring too, but that had come out of nowhere and a strange situation. Now it seems he's remembering a day to day life and it's...it's this. It's this wonderful and amazing thing.

I GET TO STUDY A NEW DRAGON!
And oh my god, there is a whole thing about a new dragon and miscommunication, but really this episode is just about HICCUP AND HIS BEING FUCKING SMUG.
Because this is a thing in Riders of Berk. At first I thought I might have been reading too much into it, but no, the writers later point this out. Hiccup is being smug and arrogant and here it's starting to show more dramatically than the past three episodes. Hiccup has it in his head that he's the best with dragons, which while true, he also still doesn't know EVERYTHING. And guess what? Dragons know better. Toothless being jealous that quickly does not match Toothless behavior. Hiccup should have known that. Some part of Hiccup DID know that. That's why when he heard about the torched forest, he knew what it was. The answer was in his head, but he was refusing to see it until it became apparent. Because he only knew because it matched Toothless behavior, but he didn't realize it without Toothless behavior.
Fact is, Hiccup as a person has changed in only one truly major way and that is believing in himself. Some minor things as well, but that's the big thing. What hasn't changed? A lifetime of bad habits.
Bad habits made because he never got attention. Hiccup developed the snark shield. Hiccup decided certain things were his problem and focused on those even though they weren't the true problem. Hiccup acted like he was more capable than he believed because it was that or not trying period.
So now he has the positive attention. He's able to believe in himself. These barriers are still in place. We see it in Hiccup never asking for help. We see it in Hiccup having control issues. Usually Toothless is the exception to this, but it had gotten to the point that Hiccup needed a swat to the head.
Why is this important? Because it's happening in Aather. Sometimes Rider is smug and arrogant because he's still 'what do' about confidence and he overcompensates it. Now he's not as bad in Riders of Berk. Yet. And because Hiccup had been pretty shot emotionally, but now that he knows things are fine, he's more at risk of this thing growing. Which means more control freak tendencies, more chances of being smug, and arrogant. It was slower in Aather, and he's been getting positive reinforcement even when he was a 'loser,' so it's a bit tempered. And tempered is also why he's going to NOTICE IT'S A THING IN THE MEMORY.
Also because it's when he was starting to get noticeably bad instead of subtle. He trusts Toothless and he's also been talking to talking animals and been getting used to thinking a bit more along their instincts. Toothless scruffed that dragon like a baby, dead give away. He's not sure on their fights, but who knows what he missed. So it's kind of a WHAT DO on how to deal with that. A lot of questions of a big head and...being unsure how to deal with that exactly. '-'
But smug, arrogant Hiccup will be an interesting thing for Rider to see and maybe try to prevent in Aather or maybe fall to it.

Break Down

-Kind of catatonic in the Great Hall for a good long while. Too broken to cry, white noise in his head.
-Then eventually notices the sounds outside for the ships and drifts out.
-Everyone is getting ready, working, working, all ignoring him or glaring at him, but too numb to care.
-Standing on one of the high platforms, near the edge. More ignoring, more glares, more numb.
-Watching Toothless get put on a boat and the ships getting ready to go.
-Sees his dad, almost wants to yell, maybe jump, SOMETHING in some hope to stop it, but...doesn't.
-Watches the ship sail away over the horizon.
-And just stands there for a good long while.
-Dark place, very, very dark place. Lots of self hatred and blame and vicious cycle of bad thoughts.
-Astrid from the corner of his eyes.

-It's a mess. Lost his father, his tribe, his best friend...

-They're mostly subdued since they're already used to what Hiccup's been doing, so without weapons, naturally relaxed.
-Then the Monstrous Nightmare!
-A bit trickier since no exposure yet, going nice and slow.
-Just try and get him to trust Snotlout, ALL GOES WELL.
-And getting some rope so kids don't fall off.
-Time for crash course flying. :)

-And telling them what exactly they're getting into with the Red Death, already thinking of plans.
Meaning
ASTRID IS THE MOST AMAZING GIRL EVER!!! Serious Astrid dere forever. He knew he would probably need SOMEONE to kick him into gear and was pretty sure it'd be Astrid and there she went. Also proof that Hiccup really does need to be pushed when he gets into his downward despair spirals.
Also dere for all the teenagers. He didn't expect that and aaaaaa, dere dere dere. They came to help, and we went and saved the day somehow.
ALSO NOW THAT THE DRAGONS AREN'T TRYING TO KILL THEM HE...kind of realizes...oh, those are the dragons on the island. Stormfly and Hookfang and all that. Almost had to kill Hookfang and yet Hookfang has SUCH DERE FOR HIM, it's funny.
He does have a basic idea what he's going to do. Go in there with the other dragons and hope he can do something. He's not certain WHAT, but maybe if he just got to Toothless...basically Hiccup goes on his 'I HAVE NO SOLID PLAN, but damn it, if I can get to my dragon, I can figure something out.' Yes, he does that. More than once.
Though also pointing out an important line. 'It would have been better for everyone...' Hiccup really does believe EVERYONE is going to die. While Hiccup is selfish, he can't be so selfish as to only want to improve HIS situation. In all the scenarios that he saw then, Toothless still ended up dead. He wouldn't want his happiness at the cost of Toothless, but he pondered it being the better idea because then EVERYONE ELSE wouldn't be dead. Hiccup did pretty much believe everyone was going to die and Rider got that feeling when he was disowned.
But the overall affect of this memory is actually extremely reaffirming. After all, Rider's natural state of being is QUESTION HIMSELF, so there are times where he wonders if he's too weak, too soft hearted. Now with Fell's trust game, it did start to reaffirm this, but this hit it home.
Rider knows sometimes hard choices have to be made, he accepts that, and logically it will come up. (He will actually get a later memory that will prove this right, but he doesn't question the hard stuff because it's AGAINST his nature. And he's more questioning himself then things like that.) Sometimes, however, you need to be forgiving. You need to show mercy, and you need to show trust. It is THIS aspect of Hiccup's character that allowed him to make friends with Toothless. He knows for sure now he had a chance to kill Toothless, but wouldn't. Which is a fair bit different from couldn't. He wasn't INCAPABLE of doing it. He just CHOSE NOT TO. (Which is why he can do what he needs to with the Red Death.) He didn't see a threat, he didn't see a monster, he saw someone reacting as he would in that situation and he chose mercy.
And Astrid pointed out these facts because it was this part of Hiccup that was strong. Being able to decide to show mercy. Being able to forgive and not only forgive, but reach out in the hopes of something better even though all logic dictates it's unlikely. Yet that's what gets him to fly.
So he was going to take the stupid/crazy chance. He was going to show mercy and forgive even through his own pain for the chance he could save those he still cared about. And just like the last time he did this, he found there were people willing to stand beside him. First Toothless, and now kids who chose to believe Astrid about the Red Death and would agree to follow Hiccup to save everyone. To change everything.
It was these traits that would give him that wonderful place he already knows exist. Where peace happened and everyone lived.

There's a whooooole lot of information here without a whole lot of context to make it make sense. (Which will become obvious with the next memory.) But it's just a rush of 'What. What is even. Why. How.' Apparently the dragons were not allowed on Berk for SOME REASON. They did something, but they saved us, so they were forgiven? Maybe that guy did it and that's why I'm mad at him?
Like, really mad. Uncomfortably mad and do not like him. UM. (The hate will come later.)
So people thought I was the Dragon Conqueror, or at least was looking for A Dragon Conqueror and they are skeptical it's me? Yeah, that's pretty legit. They wanted me to teach them how to conquer maybe? idk. They're enemies of Berk though, so not good people.
But gosh, there was a lot of badassery there.
ALSO KIND OF HAVE TO ADMIT I MAY NOT MAKE THE BEST LIFE CHOICES. At all. Because it sure sounds like I made a deal to come with Alvin which implies some sort of willingness. WINNER! \o/
Also, kya, kya, my dad is so cool, you guys. He came and saved me and was a bad ass, it was awesome. As was Astrid. And other teens. Just a lot of dere, dere, dere at them now.
And while there was some fear because he really had no idea what he was doing, personal feelings directed at Alvin was more along the lines of =T. Fear because of the uncertainty of the situation, but nothing for the people. Yeah, he's a psycho, okay, whatever. Just sass forever.

Meaning
SO I APPARENTLY AM VINDICATED IN LEARNING TO FIGHT. Because I'm apparently a target for kidnappings. Possibly semi-frequently. '-' Still the sassiest mofo at people who will probably kill me, hell yeah.
BUT TOOTHLESS! Toothless is in danger and I don't know if he'll be okay and I'm on an island with a tribe led by a psychopath. Well, okay, I'd probably be fine A While because my knowledge is the useful thing, but-but-but TOOTHLESS!!! I have to save Toothless!
BUT OH MY GOD, YOU GUYS, I LOVE MILDEW SO MUCH. YOU DO NOT EVEN KNOW. He does absolutely lovely things to Hiccup and he always knows just how to manipulate and push Hiccup's buttons. All season, he's just been digging and digging at Hiccup and oh, it shows. Something very important to note, Hiccup can only take so much of threatening of his things. Mildew keeps threatening Toothless, from getting him banished to getting him almost killed several times. Hiccup Does Not Like This.
Before the end of the finale, Hiccup has only sassed at Alvin. He's only sassed at Dagur. He sassed at EVERYTHING. Except for Mildew. Oh, sure, he sassed, but there wasn't the whole 'SIIIIIGH' quality Hiccup gets with either Alvin or Dagur. No, Hiccup has genuine hostility to Mildew.
Fact is, HICCUP REALLY FUCKING HATES HIM. A LOT. It went from dislike to, well, this.
And that whole scene. THAT WHOLE SCENE IN THE CAGES. This has been building for so long and it's so glorious.
Hiccup believes Mildew is going to be killed by Alvin, he has every reason to believe this is the truth. Mildew actually helps Hiccup to escape, without Hiccup ASKING for his help, so it seems like Mildew just decided to help. Hiccup was GENUINELY THANKING HIM, that is his 'I am surprised, but that was pretty nice!' tone of voice. And the dragon cages, WHICH HICCUP SAW, don't need a key, they are opened by levers.
So here is the guy who he KNOWS is going to die if he's left with the Outcasts, who helped him escaped, who he will later in the episode say HE OWES HIS LIFE TO FOR THE SAVE.
And he takes the key, the key that's only use at this moment is to free Mildew.
AND STARTS TO RUN RIGHT THE FUCK OUT OF THERE.
Hiccup deliberately took Mildew's one means of escape, for no reason, and LEFT THAT GUY TO DIE.
What is worse, is he was so Hiccup about it. There was no overt hostility, there was nothing scaring him off. He was being sarcastic and even thanked the guy before he decided to leave him to die.
HE HAD TO BE TALKED INTO LETTING MILDEW OUT. AND IT TOOK A COMBINATION OF GUILT, MAKING HIMSELF USEFUL IN HELPING TOOTHLESS, AND A BIT OF SYMPATHY FOR THE FUNGUS THING.
This is how much Hiccup hated this guy. It had to be a threefold attack on his conscience, sensibilities, and emotions and he STILL hesitated to do it. He really, really, REALLY just wanted to leave Mildew to die.
Because.
Fuck.
That.
Guy.
And this hate was so normal by this point, he acted so Hiccup about it. He has internalized it and reacts to it like he does to most constant negative things. He's snarky about insults and things that get him down or scare him, it's how he dealt with it without breaking because it was too constant. The hate was too constant, so it got shoved in there.
So Hiccup is just a tiny bit detached and crazy because, haha, yeah, he would have felt no remorse leaving Mildew there had he successfully left. What's funny is, if he HAD left Mildew there, Mildew would be so dead. Alvin does not like failed plans. So yeah, leaving, Mildew's dead. Mildew's only hope was Hiccup's conscience. And Mildew knew just how to manipulate it.
(I am so excited for when Hiccup figures out he was tricked, it will be amazing.)
RIDER WILL BE KIND OF SHOCKED WHEN HE GETS THIS MEMORY. Mostly because Rider has not felt this kind of hate. You don't get Hiccup hate with just one shot. It takes several times of hurting His Things and threatening His Purpose before he hates anyone. (Unless someone gets feeling misdirected at them.) But so far, while Rider has been REALLY MAD at people, he hasn't come to hate anyone yet. So suddenly getting all that Mildew hate when he had barely a hint of this guy will be extremely disconcerting.
And worrying because, haha, NO, THAT WASN'T SANITY THERE. '-' A-actually capable of cold blooded ruthlessness?!

SO EVERY WORRY, FEAR, AND NEGATIVE FEELINGS ABOUT HOME SUDDENLY GOT PROVEN WRONG, HE'S A BIT WHAT DO.
OR A LOT.
OKAY, SO STUFF.
Basically the reason I prioritized this memory is because Rider was as good as he was going to get without it. He has come a long way since Memory 12. He fought to get back hope and being happy and just believing in himself. Thinking he COULD do good things, that maybe he CAN help. There's been some big things, like plot events and certain games and Apollo's letter, and just a bunch of little things that have helped Rider put his pieces back together. He was at the point that he was CAPABLE of moving forward.
All he needed was closure. Good or bad, Rider could have taken it and moved forward. If it had been the worst case scenario, would he have been a sad duck for a while? Yes, but he wouldn't have gone complete and total BSOD and he would have recovered to a status quo on his own. Because he had already accepted the worse and decided to move forward despite that. Just...he didn't know WHAT happened, so it was just waiting for a bomb to go off. It would hold him back until he got the closure.
AND NOW HE HAS THAT. And got the totally unexpected BEST END for the entire scenario. Just like Rider didn't expect how bad things got, he did not expect how good they would get. He kind of hoped maybe he saved SOME people after he found out about Astrid. There was someone on his side, someone to kick him into gear, and someone people trusted. Maybe they could get some people to stay, maybe something else, but pretty much dreaded Toothless at least would die because he was in the worst spot. BUT NOPE, SOMEHOW SAVED ALL HIS IMPORTANT PEOPLE, UNEXILED, MADE PEACE BETWEEN VIKINGS AND DRAGONS, AND MAYBE GIRLFRIEND.
So all his worst fears about home were unfounded and SUDDENLY ALL HOPES AND DREAMS REALIZED TO BOOT?! Since he had wanted to make peace since day one of his time in Aather, got some praise from dad, and even that girlfriend thing. It's such a shocking revelation that it will take a while for Rider to process it all in it's entirety, but pretty much the whole time he's doing it, he will be grinning like a loon. He's not sure WHAT he did, and he's sure Astrid is a big part of why it worked, but the fact he's unexiled is proof enough that he had a big hand in fixing things. Gotta redeem yourself from exile. Plus in the memory, after Toothless arrives, Rider will remember Hiccup as PURELY HAPPY FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. No nagging guilt or doubt or dark cloud from lies or loneliness or missing dragon. Just legitimately happy. It's this fact that really hits it home that things really got better.
Not that this memory wiped away all the negative feels. Hiccup's natural state of being is that of self doubt plus there is still a lot of repressed bitterness. While his father seems far more affectionate than he was, there's still THOSE issues too. But they're all pretty longstanding issues that he struggles with. (All over in Riders of Berk.)
Rider was ready to move forward and try before. Now he's not held back with the nagging sensation of WHAT HAPPEN and he's got a pretty big confidence boost too. He CAN do things right, in a big way, even if he's not sure how. He'll stop his down bouts, because those happened, and overall just be prone to be happier.
It's kind of memory that just got rid of a lot of shackles that was holding Rider back and now it's just a question of where he's going to go from there. He already long since decided to help Aather, whatever happened. Mau's already told him how becoming a Legacy gives him a chance to check on Berk. He does feel more responsibilities towards his village, but he also feels a bigger responsibility to help save his WORLD from the Darkness, especially if he was a beacon at first. So a wait and see how that'll go.

But in all seriousness, it's an extremely JARRING memory. Gift of the Night Fury was jarring too, but that had come out of nowhere and a strange situation. Now it seems he's remembering a day to day life and it's...it's this. It's this wonderful and amazing thing.

And oh my god, there is a whole thing about a new dragon and miscommunication, but really this episode is just about HICCUP AND HIS BEING FUCKING SMUG.
Because this is a thing in Riders of Berk. At first I thought I might have been reading too much into it, but no, the writers later point this out. Hiccup is being smug and arrogant and here it's starting to show more dramatically than the past three episodes. Hiccup has it in his head that he's the best with dragons, which while true, he also still doesn't know EVERYTHING. And guess what? Dragons know better. Toothless being jealous that quickly does not match Toothless behavior. Hiccup should have known that. Some part of Hiccup DID know that. That's why when he heard about the torched forest, he knew what it was. The answer was in his head, but he was refusing to see it until it became apparent. Because he only knew because it matched Toothless behavior, but he didn't realize it without Toothless behavior.
Fact is, Hiccup as a person has changed in only one truly major way and that is believing in himself. Some minor things as well, but that's the big thing. What hasn't changed? A lifetime of bad habits.
Bad habits made because he never got attention. Hiccup developed the snark shield. Hiccup decided certain things were his problem and focused on those even though they weren't the true problem. Hiccup acted like he was more capable than he believed because it was that or not trying period.
So now he has the positive attention. He's able to believe in himself. These barriers are still in place. We see it in Hiccup never asking for help. We see it in Hiccup having control issues. Usually Toothless is the exception to this, but it had gotten to the point that Hiccup needed a swat to the head.
Why is this important? Because it's happening in Aather. Sometimes Rider is smug and arrogant because he's still 'what do' about confidence and he overcompensates it. Now he's not as bad in Riders of Berk. Yet. And because Hiccup had been pretty shot emotionally, but now that he knows things are fine, he's more at risk of this thing growing. Which means more control freak tendencies, more chances of being smug, and arrogant. It was slower in Aather, and he's been getting positive reinforcement even when he was a 'loser,' so it's a bit tempered. And tempered is also why he's going to NOTICE IT'S A THING IN THE MEMORY.
Also because it's when he was starting to get noticeably bad instead of subtle. He trusts Toothless and he's also been talking to talking animals and been getting used to thinking a bit more along their instincts. Toothless scruffed that dragon like a baby, dead give away. He's not sure on their fights, but who knows what he missed. So it's kind of a WHAT DO on how to deal with that. A lot of questions of a big head and...being unsure how to deal with that exactly. '-'
But smug, arrogant Hiccup will be an interesting thing for Rider to see and maybe try to prevent in Aather or maybe fall to it.

-Standing on one of the high platforms, near the edge. More ignoring, more glares, more numb.
-Watching Toothless get put on a boat and the ships getting ready to go.
-Sees his dad, almost wants to yell, maybe jump, SOMETHING in some hope to stop it, but...doesn't.

-And getting some rope so kids don't fall off.

Meaning
ASTRID IS THE MOST AMAZING GIRL EVER!!! Serious Astrid dere forever. He knew he would probably need SOMEONE to kick him into gear and was pretty sure it'd be Astrid and there she went. Also proof that Hiccup really does need to be pushed when he gets into his downward despair spirals.
Also dere for all the teenagers. He didn't expect that and aaaaaa, dere dere dere. They came to help, and we went and saved the day somehow.
ALSO NOW THAT THE DRAGONS AREN'T TRYING TO KILL THEM HE...kind of realizes...oh, those are the dragons on the island. Stormfly and Hookfang and all that. Almost had to kill Hookfang and yet Hookfang has SUCH DERE FOR HIM, it's funny.
He does have a basic idea what he's going to do. Go in there with the other dragons and hope he can do something. He's not certain WHAT, but maybe if he just got to Toothless...basically Hiccup goes on his 'I HAVE NO SOLID PLAN, but damn it, if I can get to my dragon, I can figure something out.' Yes, he does that. More than once.
Though also pointing out an important line. 'It would have been better for everyone...' Hiccup really does believe EVERYONE is going to die. While Hiccup is selfish, he can't be so selfish as to only want to improve HIS situation. In all the scenarios that he saw then, Toothless still ended up dead. He wouldn't want his happiness at the cost of Toothless, but he pondered it being the better idea because then EVERYONE ELSE wouldn't be dead. Hiccup did pretty much believe everyone was going to die and Rider got that feeling when he was disowned.
But the overall affect of this memory is actually extremely reaffirming. After all, Rider's natural state of being is QUESTION HIMSELF, so there are times where he wonders if he's too weak, too soft hearted. Now with Fell's trust game, it did start to reaffirm this, but this hit it home.
Rider knows sometimes hard choices have to be made, he accepts that, and logically it will come up. (He will actually get a later memory that will prove this right, but he doesn't question the hard stuff because it's AGAINST his nature. And he's more questioning himself then things like that.) Sometimes, however, you need to be forgiving. You need to show mercy, and you need to show trust. It is THIS aspect of Hiccup's character that allowed him to make friends with Toothless. He knows for sure now he had a chance to kill Toothless, but wouldn't. Which is a fair bit different from couldn't. He wasn't INCAPABLE of doing it. He just CHOSE NOT TO. (Which is why he can do what he needs to with the Red Death.) He didn't see a threat, he didn't see a monster, he saw someone reacting as he would in that situation and he chose mercy.
And Astrid pointed out these facts because it was this part of Hiccup that was strong. Being able to decide to show mercy. Being able to forgive and not only forgive, but reach out in the hopes of something better even though all logic dictates it's unlikely. Yet that's what gets him to fly.
So he was going to take the stupid/crazy chance. He was going to show mercy and forgive even through his own pain for the chance he could save those he still cared about. And just like the last time he did this, he found there were people willing to stand beside him. First Toothless, and now kids who chose to believe Astrid about the Red Death and would agree to follow Hiccup to save everyone. To change everything.
It was these traits that would give him that wonderful place he already knows exist. Where peace happened and everyone lived.

WHAT IS MY LIFE, WHAT ARE MY CHOICES.
There's a whooooole lot of information here without a whole lot of context to make it make sense. (Which will become obvious with the next memory.) But it's just a rush of 'What. What is even. Why. How.' Apparently the dragons were not allowed on Berk for SOME REASON. They did something, but they saved us, so they were forgiven? Maybe that guy did it and that's why I'm mad at him?
Like, really mad. Uncomfortably mad and do not like him. UM. (The hate will come later.)
So people thought I was the Dragon Conqueror, or at least was looking for A Dragon Conqueror and they are skeptical it's me? Yeah, that's pretty legit. They wanted me to teach them how to conquer maybe? idk. They're enemies of Berk though, so not good people.
But gosh, there was a lot of badassery there.

Meaning
SO I APPARENTLY AM VINDICATED IN LEARNING TO FIGHT. Because I'm apparently a target for kidnappings. Possibly semi-frequently. '-' Still the sassiest mofo at people who will probably kill me, hell yeah.
BUT TOOTHLESS! Toothless is in danger and I don't know if he'll be okay and I'm on an island with a tribe led by a psychopath. Well, okay, I'd probably be fine A While because my knowledge is the useful thing, but-but-but TOOTHLESS!!! I have to save Toothless!
BUT OH MY GOD, YOU GUYS, I LOVE MILDEW SO MUCH. YOU DO NOT EVEN KNOW. He does absolutely lovely things to Hiccup and he always knows just how to manipulate and push Hiccup's buttons. All season, he's just been digging and digging at Hiccup and oh, it shows. Something very important to note, Hiccup can only take so much of threatening of his things. Mildew keeps threatening Toothless, from getting him banished to getting him almost killed several times. Hiccup Does Not Like This.
Before the end of the finale, Hiccup has only sassed at Alvin. He's only sassed at Dagur. He sassed at EVERYTHING. Except for Mildew. Oh, sure, he sassed, but there wasn't the whole 'SIIIIIGH' quality Hiccup gets with either Alvin or Dagur. No, Hiccup has genuine hostility to Mildew.
Fact is, HICCUP REALLY FUCKING HATES HIM. A LOT. It went from dislike to, well, this.
And that whole scene. THAT WHOLE SCENE IN THE CAGES. This has been building for so long and it's so glorious.
Hiccup believes Mildew is going to be killed by Alvin, he has every reason to believe this is the truth. Mildew actually helps Hiccup to escape, without Hiccup ASKING for his help, so it seems like Mildew just decided to help. Hiccup was GENUINELY THANKING HIM, that is his 'I am surprised, but that was pretty nice!' tone of voice. And the dragon cages, WHICH HICCUP SAW, don't need a key, they are opened by levers.
So here is the guy who he KNOWS is going to die if he's left with the Outcasts, who helped him escaped, who he will later in the episode say HE OWES HIS LIFE TO FOR THE SAVE.
And he takes the key, the key that's only use at this moment is to free Mildew.
AND STARTS TO RUN RIGHT THE FUCK OUT OF THERE.
Hiccup deliberately took Mildew's one means of escape, for no reason, and LEFT THAT GUY TO DIE.
What is worse, is he was so Hiccup about it. There was no overt hostility, there was nothing scaring him off. He was being sarcastic and even thanked the guy before he decided to leave him to die.
HE HAD TO BE TALKED INTO LETTING MILDEW OUT. AND IT TOOK A COMBINATION OF GUILT, MAKING HIMSELF USEFUL IN HELPING TOOTHLESS, AND A BIT OF SYMPATHY FOR THE FUNGUS THING.
This is how much Hiccup hated this guy. It had to be a threefold attack on his conscience, sensibilities, and emotions and he STILL hesitated to do it. He really, really, REALLY just wanted to leave Mildew to die.
Because.
Fuck.
That.
Guy.
And this hate was so normal by this point, he acted so Hiccup about it. He has internalized it and reacts to it like he does to most constant negative things. He's snarky about insults and things that get him down or scare him, it's how he dealt with it without breaking because it was too constant. The hate was too constant, so it got shoved in there.
So Hiccup is just a tiny bit detached and crazy because, haha, yeah, he would have felt no remorse leaving Mildew there had he successfully left. What's funny is, if he HAD left Mildew there, Mildew would be so dead. Alvin does not like failed plans. So yeah, leaving, Mildew's dead. Mildew's only hope was Hiccup's conscience. And Mildew knew just how to manipulate it.
(I am so excited for when Hiccup figures out he was tricked, it will be amazing.)
RIDER WILL BE KIND OF SHOCKED WHEN HE GETS THIS MEMORY. Mostly because Rider has not felt this kind of hate. You don't get Hiccup hate with just one shot. It takes several times of hurting His Things and threatening His Purpose before he hates anyone. (Unless someone gets feeling misdirected at them.) But so far, while Rider has been REALLY MAD at people, he hasn't come to hate anyone yet. So suddenly getting all that Mildew hate when he had barely a hint of this guy will be extremely disconcerting.
And worrying because, haha, NO, THAT WASN'T SANITY THERE. '-' A-actually capable of cold blooded ruthlessness?!
