Written Summary
A young Hiccup is walking in the wood with his father. He's running and hopping around with a wooden sword, smacking trees, talking about beating dragons, much to Stoick's amusement. Right until he spots a small bird on the ground, moving around awkwardly. The bird has fallen from its nest and broken its wing.
Stoick explains how these things happen and the only right thing to do is end its suffering. Stoick tries to send Hiccup up along the path to do that, but Hiccup protests and begs for a way to help. Stoick is going to try and stick to the life lesson until Hiccup brings up its little like him and starts to cry. Stoick hesitates between the life lesson and wanting to do what Hiccup asks. So he does both.
He makes a splint for the bird and explains how the bird is now Hiccup's responsibility. He must care and feed him until he can fly and be released. Hiccup looks between the bird and Stoick and promises he will, and Stoick looks a proud.
Positive Neutral: Mind before the sword.

Written Summary
Young Hiccup and Stoick are playing Maces and Talons. A game that seems to be a combination of chest, roleplaying, and battleship. (Seriously, RTTE talks about this game a lot and I have no idea how it works. Trollhunters having the game did not make it clearer. Its like the YGO anime.) From how Stoick is playing, its pretty clear the game is a way to help teach Hiccup about how a chief should handle difficult decisions.
Despite Hiccup's age, and Stoick not going super hard, its clear Hiccup is still smart at that age. He's making mistakes, but he's still managing some clever plays. Enough for Stoick to ham up his challenging him.
Hiccup does lose and he's sad to lose his chief. He loves his chief. Whether this is because of the toy or because he's gone super deep into the roleplay, hard to say. Stoick hands back the chief, with one last lesson, to always use the mind before the sword.
Neutral Neutral: Axe to grind.

Written Summary (and slight editing since movie event references)
Teenage Hiccup is working in the forge with Gobber. Very clearly been at this a while since they work very well around each other, Hiccup quick to get Gobber what he needs, and their talking is familiar.
Stoick's been giving Hiccup a hard time, Gobber says he's supposed to be tough on everyone, and Hiccup is frustrated because he's NOT everyone, but also resigned to Stoick's standards. Gobber tries to explain Stoick's side, Hiccup is in a place between knowing that, but still being frustrated at the distance between them. When Gobber asks if Hiccup has told Stoick any of it, he denies it, and says it just feels like Stoick's disappointed in him whenever they make eye contact. Followed up by deprecating humor that isn't word for word what happened in the movie, but in that vein. Hiccup is a tiny boy and Stoick would clearly prefer a more stereotypical viking in his opinion. Gobber is amused, but trying to get through to Hiccup its not the size that's the problem. Its just that there's the viking way of doing things and Hiccup's way of doing things, and Hiccup's way makes grown men uncomfortable.
Hiccup is done with the conversation and asks for another one, and Gobber is willing to oblige. (The press and back off is definitely something he gets from Gobber.) He asks about girls and Hiccup responds with more sarcasm. Gobber brings up Astrid attraction, Hiccup is very sure Astrid wants nothing to do with him, and then Astrid shows up to have her axe sharpened.
Gobber awkwardly wingmans to allow Astrid and Hiccup to have some alone time. Hiccup does his best, talking about Astrid being on fire patrol, how she's disappointed about not getting a scar. Hiccup DOES NOT talk about downing a night fury. He does talk about being busy at the shop, you know, gotta take that chance to bulk up. Gets distracted by Astrid's butt as she looks around and chips her axe. He's torn between fixing his mistake and keep Astrid from the back, but decides axe is more important. Astrid asks about everything back there as he quickly works to replace the head of her axe because its bad to break her mother's axe!
She asks about the Mutilator and Hiccup goes on a very technical, absently stated explanation of how it works and it needs to be shot. Astrid seems to lose interest in it, she prefers lobbing her enemies head off the old fashion way. DOES NOT talk about starting their proper training, but she does talk about waiting for when they finally get their chance to prove themselves. Hiccup is more hesitant on that front.
The other teens call out to her and Hiccup hands her the axe. She knows it feels different and he lies about rebalancing it and finessing it and she thanks him for the help. He watches the others walk away, talking about scars, and he's...way less excited for that.
Negative Trivival: At the docks.

Written Summary and minor edits
Teen Hiccup, minus axe. The fleet is getting ready to move out with a number of warriors, Stoick included. Hiccup watches his peers say good-bye to their parents with more affection as Stoick approachs.
"I'll be back. Probably." "And I'll be here. Maybe." (I just feel this might be something they say a lot.) As they stand an awkward distance from each other.
Gobber approaches, looks between them, facepalms in obvious resignation, and acts as translator.
He says Hiccup will miss him, and hopes he finds the nest so he'll stop taking his frustrations out on everyone, namely poor Gobber. Close enough, so Hiccup nods.
Gobber looks between them, and continues. He says Stoick will be thinking of them the whole time, work hard, don't throw a house party, and he'll do his best to not die. But if he does, well that's that.
"We're vikings. It's an occupational hazard." Stoick says. Gobber repeats to Stoick's annoyance and Gobber just sarcastically apologizes for helping. Stoick gets into the boat and tells Gobber he wants Hiccup back with all limbs intact. Taking his frustration out on Gobber again. And then they set sail.
Neutral Significant: So much lying and training.

Written Summary
Flashes of moments of Hiccup working in the forge, with Toothless, dragon training, and in the village.
It starts with Hiccup making a saddle. Then chasing Toothless to get the saddle on him. Then trying to fly with Toothless, holding the rope that works his tail. Only to crash and fall off. He makes tethers, which work a little better, but they still crash in tall grass that is dragon catnip and Toothless reacts accordingly. Hiccup takes some of the grass to dragon training. He uses it to subdue a Gronckle in the arena. This is getting attention and his peers are all too eager to talk to Hiccup about how amazing it was and he's very much uncomfortable and is quick to run away.
Hiccup gives Toothless a good scratching to help with saddle discomfort and finds a spot that turns Toothless into a puddle. In the arena, a Nadder charges him, stopping as he drops his mace, giving him a chance to find the puddle spot on the Nadder before Astrid could attack. At mealtime, Hiccup goes to sit alone at the Great Hall and is instead swarmed by people to his surprise. He doesn't give any clear answers, letting them talk, and he's very awkward, but he also doesn't entirely hate that people want to be near him.
While working on adjusting the rig parts, he sees Toothless chase the light off his hammer. Also very catlike and cute. Hiccup uses this to lead a Terrible Terror, a tiny dragon, back into its cage. He gets spotted by Astrid in the forest, whose angrily throwing her axe at trees, and he bolts before she can see where he goes.
He's making progress on the rig and making notes what tail position does what to Toothless flight as they practice on a cliff with a tether. Which snaps and sends them flying. And bends the metal so he can't get untethered to the saddle. He has to sneak Toothless into the village at night to get a tool to unbend the metal. Only to have Astrid call out to him in the forge.
He manages to keep Toothless hidden thanks to a window shudder and Astrid calls out Hiccup on being weirder than normal. Toothless yanks him back and Hiccup is quick to get Toothless to GO before Astrid can cross the distance to spot them as they escape the village.
Negative Significant: Things go wrong.

Written Summary
Teen Hiccup is before the gate into the arena. His village is cheering his name. Stoick steps up to make a speech and its very clear that no one had high hopes for Hiccup, he was a disastrous embarrassment. His turn to being the first in dragon training is both a surprise, but also something to be proud of. Today Hiccup becomes a viking. He becomes one of them.
Astrid approaches, concerned and wondering what Hiccup is going to do. Hiccup is less worried about the dragon as the vikings. He has to try to put an end to this. He asks Astrid to keep them from finding Toothless if things go wrong. Astrid says she will and asks him to promise it won't go wrong. Hiccup does not promise, instead going out into the ring. He selects a knife and shield and tells them he's ready.
He stands as the Monstrous Nightmare (Hookfang in other memories) comes out blazing. Hiccup stands still until Hookfang chills enough to approach cautiously. Hiccup drops his shield and knife, attempting to soothe Hookfang. He pointedly tosses away his helmet and says he's not one of them. Stoick orders the fight to be stopped and Hiccup refuses. He needs them to see. Dragons aren't what they think they are, they don't have to kill them, reaching out for Hookfang's snout. And Stoick more violently orders the fight to stop, hitting the cage, and freaking out Hookfang who goes berserk.
Hiccup has to run now, screaming. Then everyone is screaming. Astrid gets into the ring, and helps play distraction to try and keep Hiccup alive. Stoick gets the gate open and gets Astrid out, but Hiccup is cut off and then pinned down. Hookfang is menacing him, maybe about to eat him, when suddenly the world is smoke and Hookfang is gone. When the smoke clears, Toothless is there, fighting Hookfang and protecting Hiccup. Hookfang backs off, and Hiccup goes to Toothless, trying to get him to leave. Except then vikings are rushing in and Toothless is stuck in protective mode, attacking the biggest looking threat, which is a rushing Stoick. Toothless is about to blast him until Hiccup's shouts finally get through to him, leaving him confused.
And letting him get rushed and pinned down. Astrid having to stop Hiccup from getting into the fight, as Hiccup begs for them to not hurt him. Stoick seems to understand some of what's going on, throwing Toothless in a cell and dragging Hiccup off to the Great Hall.
Stoick is furious, talking about how he should have known, seen the signs, talking about their deal. Hiccup is trying to find the words, but its all messed up. Stoick is mad about the tricks and lies and Hiccup knows he should have told Stoick, and begs for him to just be mad at him, and not to hurt Toothless. Stoick is even more mad at Hiccup caring more about the dragon then the people he almost killed and Hiccup tries to explain he was just trying to protect him.
Dragons have killed hundreds of vikings, and vikings have killed thousands of them. Hiccup explains they're just defending themselves and tries to explain how if they don't bring back enough food, they'll be eaten because of something else on their island.
Hiccup's fucked up the moment he says their island and he knows it. Stoick stops his pacing to confirm that Hiccup's been to their nest. Hiccup tries to save it, he doesn't know how to find it, only a dragon knows how. Unfortunately, Hiccup can see the idea as soon as Stoick has it, to use a dragon to find the nest, and he tries to get Stoick to understand that what's on the nest isn't something he's prepared for.
Stoick, however, has a target for all his feelings and brushes Hiccup aside as he begs for Stoick to listen to him for once in his life.
Stoick pushes him away. Hiccup's thrown his lot in with the dragons. He's not a viking. He's not his son.
And Hiccup.....doesn't move from his spot on the ground, staring after Stoick. Minutes for the replay, but obviously hours once he finally moves out of the Great Hall.
He moves through the village. It's almost empty now, with most people at the docks. Only a few adults, children, and elderly left in the village (there's not a lot of either) or near the top of the docks. Hiccup reaches an isolated cliff, watching preparations, his father, and Toothless on a boat. Watching them disappear over the horizon.
10:38 to end.
